What Was The Harlem Renaissance(1920)
Harlem, a neighborhood in New York City, became the center of cultural
and artistic expression for African Americans. Between 1919 and 1920,a mass
migration of African Americans occurred as they left the south in
search of opportunities and to excape the jim crow expression in the south. Harlem became the destination for African
Americans. This migration became the foundation for the Harlem
renaissance, a cultural surge that influenced the rise of jazz and
blues, poetry, and dance. Artists like Georgia Johnson who was known
for her writing and Bessie smith who was known for her irresistible
voice had a strong influence in the industry. The Harlem renaissance
influenced not only music but the way people expressed themselves and
social interaction leading to the jazz age. The Harlem renaissance
reshaped American culture through the form of art, music,civil rights
movement and so more,changing generations.

Georgia douglas johnson(September 10,1880)
Georgia Johnson was a writer, poet, and a playwright who had a
significant impact as a pioneer in the black theater movement during
the 1960s, in particular, she influenced African Americans living in
Harlem. Johnson's work often touched on themes such as, the roles of
women, lonlelines, and the issue of lynching. Through her writing she
inspired many African Americans to pursue an interest in art, and helped
contribute to the growth of literary in the African American
communities

Bessie smith(April 15,1894)
Bessie Smith was a blues and jazz singer. She started her career
at a young age singing in the street with her brother to make money for
her and her sibling. During one of her performances, she was met by a
woman named Ma Rainey. Ma Rainey was impressed by Bessie's performance
and invited her to join her as she traveled. As Bessie toured with
Ma Rainey her popularity grew tremendously, later on as she traveled the
world spreading her music, it led to her getting even more recognition.
As her fame grew, she began earning over 2,000 dollars a week at her peak
. Soon after, her career started to decline with the beginning of the
Great Depression
